THE LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT:

Lovington Public Library mission is to enrich all to reach all . We strive to provide and ensure our community with free and open access to the collections, services, and technology to the world's information for education, references in both print and digital formats, which meets the needs of all age citizens and society as only the public library can meet them

ESTACADO LIBRARY INFORMATION NETWORK (E.L.I.N)
One Card......Many Libraries

In 1996 five libraries came together to improve information services in Southeastern New Mexico.  Hobbs, Lovington, Jal, NMJC, and Scarborough Memorial from the University of the Southwest formed the E.L.I.N Network.  Together these libraries offer loans, not only through the consortium itself, but also though state.  Our patrons get access to more digital resources through the ELIN system.  Our libraries accommodate our patrons by giving them an easy approach to our network by providing twenty-four-hour access from remote home computers and other libraries.
Consortium:  any association, partnership, or union

INTERNET

The Lovington Public Library provides computers with which the public can gain access to Internet services, namely the World Wide Web.  The library's intention in providing Internet access is that it will be used as a reference tool.  Internet use includes the World Wide Web and free Web-based e-mail.  It is NOT to be used for multi-user groups, or other similar interactive on-line functions.

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

The collection of the library will conform to the informational, recreational, and educational interests and needs of the community it serves.  It will include material for all ages, degrees of reading ability, educational level, and individual and group interests.
The selection is made by the library director, in cooperation with the staff and others with special
knowledge or interest in various fields.

TEAM

ABOUT

I have worked at the Lovington Public Library for almost 24 years.  That should give some insight into the fact that I really love my job.  I guess I would have to attribute it to the great diversity in libraries.  On any given day I may be so busy helping patrons that I never touch the work on my desk, then the next day may be so slow that I can clear a few of the stacks on my desk.  There are so many different kinds of patrons: young/old, women/men, people with different socio-economic backgrounds, etc.  There are so many needs and different ways to satisfy them:  the child who just wants to play games on the computer, the college student applying for federal aid, the caregiver who wants an entertaining book to read, the traveler who wants an audiobook to while away the miles, and many more.  Each day is fresh and full of the unknown and kind of exciting.
